Pure Vermont Maple Syrup - Donna Diegel
Maple syrup pie studded with walnuts, is similar to pecan pie with its buttery brown sugar goodness. The best maple walnut pie is served with ice cream or whipped cream.

A slice of Maple Walnut Pie with vanilla ice cream is a perfect holiday dessert. Easy to make, the most time consuming part of the maple walnut pie recipe is the pie crust. Once the pie crust is made, the maple walnut batter is quickly done and ready for the oven. If time is short, use a purchased pie shell.

How To Make The Best Maple Walnut Pie

  • Maple Syrup: Use only pure maple syrup for this pie. Dark amber or baking grade maple syrup is the darkest in color, and has the richest flavor. Don't use fancy light maple syrup as it isn't strong enough to stand up to baking. Best save the fancy maple syrup for pancakes and waffles.
  • Toasted Walnuts: For the best flavor, toast the walnuts first. Place walnuts on an ungreased sheet pan and toast in a 350 degree oven for 8-10 minutes, stirring a few times until light brown and fragrant. Let cool, set aside, and then chop.
  • Pie Pans: Use a 9" deep dish pie pan, disposable aluminum pie pan, a hefty stoneware pie dish or Grandma's favorite pie tin.
  • Pie Crust: Use the recipe for the Best Flaky Pie Crust, or use a favorite pie crust recipe.

How To make a Maple Walnut Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Prepare pie crust (above), and place on a baking sheet.
  3. Melt butter in medium saucepan. Add brown sugar, stir and pour into large mixing bowl.
  4. With an electric mixer, and using the whip attachment, mix the butter and brown sugar together. Add corn syrup, maple syrup and maple extract, and mix again. Scrape bowl.
  5. With mixer on medium-high, whisk in eggs, beating to mix well but not foamy.

  7. Carefully pour batter over the walnuts, being careful not to disturb the nuts.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes or until top is slightly browned and puffy. This will fall as it cools.
  9. Remove to wire rack and cool to lukewarm.
  10. Mix 2 Tablespoons maple syrup and water together, and brush the top of the warm pie with it.
